Liver-loving foods

I talk a lot about the need to support our livers to help detoxify and eliminate used hormones to prevent oestrogen dominance. Here's some of my favourite foods for supporting liver health:

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Leafy green vegetables - spinach, kale, collard greens, rocket, parsley, asparagus - provide plenty of B vitamins and magnesium. Aim for 2-3 portions each day. Try eggs with spinach and asparagus for brekkie to boost your intake early!

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Cruciferous vegetables - broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, kale - rich in sulphur - aim for 3 fist sized portions per day. I love to pre-roast and add them to salads at lunchtime 💚

Alliums – onions and garlic - also rich in sulphur. Try to incorporate them as often as possible.

Lean good quality protein such as grass fed beef or organic free range chicken are great sources of amino acids. Egg yolks and beans are particularly good sources of choline.

Eat a rainbow of fruit and vegetables rich in phytonutrients to ensure optimal antioxidant status - vital to neutralise the free radicals formed in phase I detoxification. Berries are a great low sugar fruit option which also support phase 2 detoxification 💖

Beetroot - shown to support the activity of liver enzymes, helping to reduce oxidative stress and DNA damage.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Asparagus - shown to increase the activity of 2 key enzymes that metabolise alcohol in the liver.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Nettle, dandelion, Rooibus and green tea - support detoxification. Replace your usual coffee with one to also decrease your toxic load 👌🏻

You also want to make sure you're moving your bowels daily to get the toxins out.
